What is an industrial induction motor?
The industrial induction motor converts electrical energy into mechanical energy based on the principle of electromagnetic induction, and is used to drive various industrial machinery and equipment. It drives the rotor to rotate through the rotating magnetic field generated by the stator, thereby driving the load to operate. Due to its simple design and easy maintenance, this motor is widely used in factories, mines, construction, agriculture and other fields.
Working principle of industrial induction motor

The working principle of industrial induction motor is based on the law of electromagnetic induction. When three-phase AC current passes through the stator winding of the motor, a rotating magnetic field is generated inside the stator. This rotating magnetic field rotates along the stator axis, opposite to the rotor part of the motor. Under the action of the rotating magnetic field generated by the stator, the magnetic flux passing through the rotor winding changes, and according to Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, an electromotive force is induced in the rotor.
Due to the induced electromotive force in the closed loop of the rotor winding, the current flows in the rotor, forming a rotor magnetic field. This rotor magnetic field interacts with the stator rotating magnetic field to generate torque, causing the rotor to start rotating. In order to maintain the rotation of the rotor, the rotor must run at a speed slightly lower than the synchronous speed so that it can continue to produce relative motion with the rotating magnetic field.
Therefore, the speed of the motor is slightly lower than the synchronous speed determined by the power supply frequency and the number of pole pairs. The operation of the motor is driven by the induced electromotive force, which is why this type of motor is called an "induction motor". In this way, the motor can effectively convert electrical energy into mechanical energy to drive various industrial equipment and machinery.
Types of Induction Motors
Induction motors are categorized into two main types: single-phase and three-phase induction motors. And there are further classifications based on their way of starting.
A single-phase induction motor is a small-size motor with a fractional-kilowatt rating. They work on the principle of electromagnetic induction to create a rotating magnetic field. It is used in domestic appliances like fans, hair dryers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, mixers, refrigerators, food processors and kitchen equipment employ these motors.

Applications of Single-Phase Induction Motors
Although single-phase induction motors cannot start themselves and are less efficient than three-phase induction motors, with a power range of 0.5HP to 15HP, their simple structure and low cost make them widely used in various applications. Here are some common application areas:

Since three-phase AC flows in the windings at 120° apart, it can easily generate a rotating magnetic field (RMF) in the stator windings. This allows for smoother rotation of the magnetic field than a capacitor-started single-phase motor.
The rotating magnetic field produced by the three-phase current is very smooth, allowing the motor to run smoothly without any vibration or noise.
Compared to single-phase power, three-phase power is very reliable and economical. The power supply is not affected by a single line failure. The stator windings share the current, reducing more copper losses, so three-phase motors are more efficient.
